Design and Tooling

Define the Product Before Tooling

A custom PVC product starts with a clear specification. Share your drawing, intended use and approval requirements so we can review the material and tooling needs before the project moves forward.

Confirm the product structure, dimensions, material requirements and any interfaces with other components. Tell us which properties must be tested and provide the required test methods or standards for review.

These requirements guide material selection and tooling decisions. Before a mould trial, we review the requirements again so that the workshop has a clear basis for preparing the sample.

Sample Approval for Custom Junction Boxes

For a new junction-box mould, the first trial sample and the final approval sample serve different purposes. We use two stages to confirm the product before completing the detailed appearance work.

Stage One: Confirm Material and Structure

The first trial sample may be a plain box without the final logo or detailed markings. Use it to review the material and overall structure, and identify any adjustments needed.

If independent testing is required, agree the test requirements and sample stage with us before the trial. The first trial sample should not be treated as the final approval sample.

Stage Two: Confirm Colour and Markings

After the material and overall structure are approved, we move on to colour, logo details and other agreed markings. Confirm these details before final mould polishing or engraving.

Raise structural changes as early as possible. Changes requested after final tooling work may require additional review and rework.

Use a Physical Colour Reference

For custom conduit colours, provide a physical colour sample or select from available production samples. A colour code alone is not enough to confirm the match; approve the physical sample before placing the production order.

Include colour requirements in your enquiry so they can be reviewed alongside the product specification and quotation.

Keep the Approved Sample Identifiable

Sample records identify the product specification, colour, wall thickness and selected quality grade, together with the adhesive-tape grade where applicable. Keep the sample reference with your approval so that the production specification can be traced to the item you selected.

Send your drawing, intended use, quantities and any required tests. We can review the proposed product and confirm the tooling and sample-approval steps for your project.
