PVC Conduit Fittings: A Compatibility Checklist
A conduit order is only complete when the tube, fittings, boxes and fixing devices work together. A nominal diameter is a useful starting point, but it is not a complete compatibility specification.
Confirm the conduit dimensions
Ask for the outside diameter, wall thickness, tolerances and the relevant drawing. Identify the rigid or flexible conduit series. Check the dimensions against the fitting entry, especially when sourcing components from different ranges or suppliers.
Identify every connection
Record the intended joint type and the manufacturer’s installation method. Confirm insertion requirements, connection retention and any required seal or bonding method for that exact system. Do not select an adhesive or jointing process solely because two components are described as PVC.
Build the route list
- Straight runs: lengths and connection points.
- Changes in direction: bends and access requirements.
- Branches: tees, junction or looping boxes.
- Terminations: equipment entries, switch boxes and adapters.
- Supports: fixing devices and the approved mounting method.
Check boxes and entries
Confirm the number, position and dimensions of box entries, the required internal space and the mounting arrangement. Allow for the cable bending and pulling plan. Similar-looking boxes may have different entry layouts, so approve the actual drawing or sample.
Verify the system requirements
IEC 61386-1 describes requirements and tests for conduit systems, including conduit and fittings. Ask for documents covering the proposed items and the required classifications. Do not infer an IP, impact, compression or temperature rating from colour or diameter.
Approve before ordering volume
Use a sample assembly to check fit and the specified installation process. Keep the approved part list and drawing revisions together. For a quote, share the conduit size, fitting quantities, box entry layout, installation environment and destination country.
Request exact dimensions and compatibility confirmation if replacing one supplier’s fitting with another. A matching nominal label is not enough.
