How to Select Slotted Wiring Duct for a Control Panel

Published by Budgie · 11 October 2026

Control-panel wiring duct should match the component layout and wire exits. Begin with a panel drawing showing terminal blocks, devices, cable entries and the routes between them.

Match the sidewall to the exit pattern

Compare the available open-slotted, closed-slotted and solid duct profiles. Check the drawing or sample for slot width, pitch and finger geometry: names alone do not define these dimensions. Where wires leave the duct frequently, the exit spacing should suit the terminal layout. A solid sidewall requires planned exit points rather than relying on slots.

Size using real wires

Use each wire’s outside diameter, including insulation, and the number of wires in each run. Confirm usable internal area for the selected duct and the permitted fill for the panel design. Reserve any future wiring space specified by the customer. The external duct size is not the available wire area.

Check component and lid access

Review the space around terminal screws, DIN-rail equipment, cable bends and cover removal. A duct can fit on a drawing while making connections difficult to service. Confirm lid retention, mounting-hole positions and the method of fixing the duct to the panel.

Keep performance claims specific

Request the material and product documents required by the panel specification. A UL 94 classification describes a plastics flammability test; it does not automatically establish certification of the complete panel or a fire-resistance rating for an installation.

Approve a representative sample

Test the profile with the proposed wires and terminal arrangement before approving a production order. Check cable exits, edges, lid fit and maintenance clearance. For OEM supply, record the approved colour, dimensions, packing and labelling alongside the drawing revision.

Include the panel drawing, duct dimensions, slot requirements, wire schedule, quantity and destination market in your enquiry.
